2023 ~ The Year of Abundance

Happy New Year, my dear followers. Hope your weekend was what you needed and wanted it to be. Mine was.

I'm not heading right into my specific goals for 2023 just yet. First, I'm gonna talk about some general tenets I'm going to adopt.

So...

Over the course of 2021-2022, I read the book "Remembering Wholeness" by Carol Tuttle. My Amazon order history shows I ordered it at the very end of 2020 (!!), and I probably started reading it right away because I do remember practicing some of Ms. Tuttle's recommendations.

But somewhere along the way, I put the book aside. Then 2022 happened and there was no time or brain power until the last few months of the year. But I kept seeing it on my shelf and kept thinking I needed to finish it. Eventually I pulled it off the shelf and started reading again.

Let me preface the rest of this post with some backstory. A dear friend of mine has had various struggles most of the years I've known her, which is better than a decade now. She's a beautiful woman inside and out, and these struggles were through no fault of her own. At some point, however, she realized she needed to take control of her destiny and that of her family.

So back in 2018/2019/2020, utilizing some of Carol Tuttle's recommended practices, mostly regarding various types of prayer, my friend was able to turn things around. Since she read the book, she's realized all her original intentions and has, of course, moved on to bigger and better goals and new intentions.

I was impressed and envious and asked her how she made things happen. She pointed me to the book and so I bought it.

Now a caveat--Carol Tuttle is woman of strong faith, so most of her recommendations are faith- and prayer-based. If prayer is not your thing, then this may not be a book for you. It's also a tiny bit of an infomercial kind of thing. She has (had? it's an old book) some sort counseling practice going on that she mentions. And the technique she practiced sounded a little "out there." But who am I to judge? I, too, march to the beat of my own drummer.

Some of her stuff was a little too odd for me, but, on the other hand, some of it resonated strongly.

In writers circles, there's a saying, especially in regards to advice or editorial suggestions: "Take what works for you, and ignore the rest."

Although I made a lot of notes along the way, I applied that advice to this book. When I asked my friend about it, she felt the same. Use what works, and don't worry about the rest.

I should probably go back through my notes and see how many of those things still resonate.

There were a couple chapters there at the end that really got me, and one of those is where the title of today's post comes from.  "The Universe is Abundant." Ms. Tuttle's belief is just that. There's enough of everything for everyone. Even enough money.

One of the recurring threads of the book is that the universe only gives one back what one puts into it. So, theoretically, if someone complains about about a bad situation, they're going to keep experiencing that bad situation because they keep putting it out there in a negative way. Conversely, if someone puts good, positive thoughts into the universe, then they would get good, positive things back.

Nothing's free, of course. You do have to do some work. My friend went back to school and got a new job in her quest for a better life and a better income. But the universe aligned the cogs to help her make those things happen. She's even a homeowner again.

So all that to say, I'm putting putting positive things into the ether this year. I'm going to be grateful for:

An abundance of  TIME.

An abundance of  LOVE.

An abundance of  MONEY.

An abundance of  FAMILY.

An abundance of  ENERGY.

An abundance of  SUCCESS.

An abundance of  HEALING.

Here's to an ABUNDANT 2023.

Take care and I'll talk you soon.

A Time for Thanksgiving!

And a time to write!

Four day weekend coming and isn't that delightful!?!?

Due to the black cloud that is COVID still hanging over society's heads, Thanksgiving will be limited to our household only. I've bought most of the dinner fixin's. I just need to buy another bag of potatoes, because Thanksgiving is NOT complete without mashed potatoes no matter what else you serve. Otherwise:

Ham. ✅

Corn. ✅

Hawaiian King Rolls. ✅

Gravy. ✅

Canned Pumpkin. ✅

Cream Cheese Frosting. ✅

DH also wants turkey, so hopefully there will be a small package of pre-cooked turkey and I want to make cupcakes for the office, so I'll be hunting down another can of pumpkin and container of frosting. I also love stuffing, so I might hunt up a box of cornbread stuffing...

DD is looking forward to a full week off school. She has the 2 / 3 year olds, so they're a handful.

I wish we had a whole week, but I'm definitely thankful for the four days I do get.

I was thinking this morning that I have time to percolate more of the new WIP--I'm writing a short Christmas story to submit to an online publisher for release next holiday season. The deadline is March 1.

Four days of writing for at least four hours at approximately 350 words an hour...that's 5600 words, which is about half the word count I'm shooting for and would be a heck of an accomplishment.

That doesn't include any of the words I write in the meantime and...

I'm getting super excited about the prospect & possibilities right now. 💖

In order to prime the pump a little I'm going to have to work on my Romancing the Beats, well, beats...and get a road map put together.

Oh--I commissioned a book cover for one of two historicals I've had in my back pocket. I think I mentioned them a while back. I got the cover back for the one and I'm so pleased. I wanted to have it to keep me focused and inspired to finish the book, and this cover is gonna do just that.

Have a great rest of your week!

This is going to be short and sweet because, well, it's time to be thankful and travel and spend time with family and friends. No one wants to read my ramblings today!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING to one and all.

Memorial Day

Happy Thanksgiving!

I suppose I should expound on all the things I'm grateful for, which hasn't change much last year, so I'm still grateful for all the people who put up with me and for my house, a car, and food!

But today I'm happy because it's a four-day weekend which is starting early for us and because I've written this mini-epic and I love it.

So we're celebrating with some music. This song became the defacto theme of this fic, which reached a stopping point because I had to submit it, but is not finished...

Enjoy and have a wonderful holiday with those you hold nearest and dearest. Or those who are just closest. :)

Counting my blessings...

The other day I was in a right funk. Very pissed off about my troubles and jealous of pretty much everybody I know. Kind of ironic considering Thanksgiving was just last week. And just last Wednesday I even posted all the things I'm thankful for. And I am still thankful for all of them, but you know, sometimes we have bad days.

So today I needed a bit of a kick in the pants and decided to count a few blessings.

1) I have a husband and children who love me and whom I love.
2) I have family who loves me and whom I love.
3) My Brown Eyed Girl just celebrated three years clean.
4) I have a roof over my head and food to eat.
5) I have friends who care about me and whom I care about in return.
6) I can read books for free if I know where to look. (and I do)
7) Me and mine are relatively healthy. We're not suffering chronic conditions or illnesses.
8) I live in one of the more economically sound states of the Union. (Well, it is for now. I know it can change.)
9) I've had the opportunity to travel and/or live not only around the US of A, but to a couple of foreign countries as well. (Denmark and England)

While the list seems short, these nine things encompass a lot of blessings.

What about you? Is there something I didn't mention that you are especially blessed with??

Thankful...

So tomorrow's Thanksgiving...an appropriate time to mention all the things I'm thankful for...

In no particular order:

my husband
my children
the fact that everyone is healthy
My family: moms, dads, in laws, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, grandmothers and granddads, uncles, aunts and cousins

the troops
the US of A--despite our issues it's still the best country on the planet
for books
for the Internet--so much information and knowledge available at your fingertip
for my friends, both in person and online
for music
for chocolate
for cereal
for pizza
for candles
for all the critters I've ever had
for being able to have visited Denmark and England
for fall
for birds and squirrels and tree lizards, oh my
fandom-related experiences
for my mom teaching me to sew and cross stitch and crochet and cook
for my dad sharing his love of music with me

I'm sure there're other things, but these are the ones that immediately come to mind.

May your Thanksgiving be filled with family, friends, and fun!

A time for thankfulness and writing

Happy Thanksgiving day to all my faithful readers. I hope your day was fun and relaxing with good food and the people you most enjoy being with.

Some of my Facebook peeps have been sharing each day something they're thankful. While I could come up with 30 things I'm thankful, I'll just list a few...

My family, of course. Immediate and extended, to include DH, the Brown-Eyed Girl, DD, and Sonshine. My mom and my grandma. My step-mom, my sisters and brothers, my nieces and nephews. My mother- and father-in-law, my sisters- and brothers-in-law. And my dog Sammy.

I'm thankful for the members of the US military, past, present, and future, who fight for my freedoms.

I'm thankful that my Brown-Eyed Girl is still with us and celebrated 2 years of sobriety this past Tuesday.

I'm thankful for my hubby of 19 years and that he's put up with me this long.

I'm thankful for my writing friends and the writing community for the friendships I've made and the things I've learned over the last nine years.

Speaking of writing...I've got 4900 words to come up with by the 8th in order to earn my next charm. Unfortunately, the writing has been a struggle of late. But I have the rest of the weekend to get back into it and try to bang out some words.

So on that note, I'm going to sign off now.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Thansgiving

Well, it's that time of year again: Thanksgiving. When we're all supposed feel thankful for something. Of course, I do.

I'm thankful for my family: my husband, daughters, and Sonshine. My mom, step mother, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, in laws.

I'm thankful that my oldest daughter is on her way to recovery. She's been evaluated and approved for a halfway house. It's still about three months before she's back in town though.

I'm thankful for better financial circumstances than last year.

I'm thankful for my friends, real life and online.

I'm thankful for my health and that of my family.

I'm thankful for my dogs, Honey and Sam.
