I feel a little like the White Rabbit

Not that I'm late. Not yet, anyway, but I have a lot of things to do and I could easily get behind as I have little get-up-and-go at the moment. But I will dutifully update my to-do list and do my best to plow through everything as the countdown to my road trip/conference begins in earnest.

(no, there shouldn't be an apostrophe in 'Mondays' here, but I didn't caption this photo)
(but the meme accurately depicted my feeling about today being a Monday)

My weekend was awesome. My first meeting as president of my writers group went well. I got to see a couple of the peeps I hadn't seen in a couple of months, although a different peep didn't make it sadly...

I got back my next anthology story from the coordinator with nothing but missing or extra words marked. The story itself was fine. YAY. Once I tweak and send back, I'm done with this thing until November.

I spent some time Saturday and Sunday morning re-acquainting myself with ten Rigs Book 7, A Certain Kind of Man, as well as working on the backbone of the story, aka the plot, as well as the romance. I know you remember all my whining about struggling with plot. So I knuckled down and made some progress. Am I done? No. But I'm making progress.

Anyway...time to get to work. Have a great week. Catch you Wednesday.

Time keeps on slipping, slipping, slipping...into the future...

How is it June?

Where has the year gone?

What have I accomplished?

The answers are: it just is; good question with no answer; and not a whole heck of a lot, to be honest.

I wrote a book, so that's definitely something. And a something I'm definitely proud of. The book will be part of anthology to be released in July. More details and a cover when I have them.

I spent a lot of time bonding with DD and at the same time living life, as it were. All that hockey and the playoffs were such great experiences. Sharing it with DD before she leaves home again was super and I'm grateful for the opportunity.

Sometimes things happen for a reason, and even though someone else was supposed to be president, I think maybe I'm here for a reason....

For the last several weeks, I've gotten a lot of writers-group-related tasks done, so there's that too. I want to start my tenure with as much in place and done as I can. I want my President-Elect to be able to easily step into the presidency come next fall, with us both having streamlined the duties of all board positions.

So that's what I've accomplished (along with gaining ten pounds, but whatever).

What are my goals going forward?

Two writers with whom I interact on a mostly daily work on their writing business plan / writing schedule every quarter. I'm sure many other writers do this too, I just don't know them or know this about them. Now, both these ladies write for income. I don't. But I'd still like to actively write/publish at least two books a year. One of my goals for the near future is to really think about my writing process and plan for those two books a year. Plan out the projects, from idea, to character building, to series planning.

I have ideas for two different series at the moment, one with six to nine books, the other with four or five books. At two books a year, I'm busy for the next five years at least. I'm good with that. Ideally, I'd like to publish three books a year, but I'm going to have to build up to that I think.

My other major goal, to lose those ten pounds, but I'm having an awful hard time overcoming my sweet tooth right now.

Hope you had a lovely weekend and may the coming week be productive.

Monday Miscellany...

My tidying process continued this weekend. I purged my closets and drawers of two more garbage bags full of clothes, along with four pair of shoes. One pair went in the trash as they were broken, although I would have kept them otherwise. The other three went into the donation pile.

Along with all the clothes, I purged more books. There are still more books yet to be sorted through, but I'll get there slowly but surely. I also tackled a shelf full of small bins and a plastic chest of drawers and threw out or or put in the donation box everything I didn't need or want.

There will be a trip to the donation station on my agenda for next Saturday.

Writers group meeting went well this past Saturday and the new and improved version of the GetPublished! program now in my hands was well received. I opted to not attend the Stars game Saturday in order to hang out with my writer friends. I see DD everyday and attend most of the games with her. I only get to see my friends generally once a month, so it was no-brainer.

I found some ornament storage containers on clearance for $4.50 each at Walmart yesterday, so taking down the rest of Christmas should happen over the course of the week and into next weekend.

Not much else going on.

Hope you had a good weekend and I hope your week goes well.

Take care!!

Monday Musings...

Well, Happy Monday. Hope you had a lovely weekend. Mine was very good. Saturday was writers group meeting, but since it's December, we partied instead of having a writing-related program. My book cover bingo seemed to go over well, so yay. I got several lovely ornaments that went directly on the tree, and I spent quality time with some of my favorite people in the whole wide world.

DH came home so that was really good too. He'd been helping his mom deal with some stuff. With the help of one of DD's best friends, the truck is repaired and as DH said, "purring like a kitten." A local care care place wanted to charge us close to $600 for replacing spark plugs. Between parts and labor, we shelled out $250.

T minus six days until Sonshine arrives home. WOO HOO!!!

Since the truck is drive-able once again, I have my car back. Meaning two things. 1) I no longer have to be stranded at the office when one or other of the employees takes the company vehicle to a client and doesn't make it back by 5pm. 2) I can go back to the gym now.

Which I did this morning. I did not dive right back into wherever I left off, instead just focusing on cardio and burning calories, with a short focus on the abs.

Apologies for missing Friday's post...if you even missed it at all. I tried several times to get something written and just couldn't seem to find a good topic or any sort inspiration.

Confession time...I've been eating atrociously and as a result have gained two pounds. So along with heading back to the gym...I will be trying to get back on track with my eating habits, although I will enjoy the treats of the season. Just not as much of them. And getting back to the gym on a regular basis ought to help a lot.

Gas prices have dropped a little more, which is nice. Down to $1.89 close to my house, which is rarely the lowest of the wider local area. I wonder how low they will get...

As it is Monday, I guess I ought to get my work day started...

Have a great day and I'll see you Wednesday.

I can't blog on the fly anymore...

Used to be I could sit down at my desk on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and take thirty minutes to an hour to pour my random or inane thoughts into the blog.

No so much anymore. :) While I do still have a lot of free time in my day--it's not first thing in the morning.

I'm going to have to spend some time planning some topics I'd be interested in researching and writing about.

Today, however, is not that day. It's Monday; it's the 1st of the month; I'm running a contest for my writing group that I have to work on; it's renewal month for my writing group--as treasurer; I have to process those; I signed up for a week-long writing class that starts today; and not last or least, I somehow ended up signing up for a month-long writer's boot camp.

As you can see, I've got a lot on my plate today, this week, this month.

I don't mind busy, I just might need to plan ahead a little better. :)

Have a great week!

Monday, Monday...and the heat is on...

Yeah, so I missed Friday. Sorry. By the time I remembered I hadn't posted, the day was half over and I just decided to let it slide.

I mentioned several projects last week, and I have just had another one ramp up. So even more busy and now with a deadline for completing a fan fiction looming...

This weekend the words just poured out of me. I'm not sure where they're coming from but I'm not complaining. The biggest issue is that my fan fic eyes got way bigger than my time-frame eyes. The story started out as one thing and morphed into something else during the pouring out of words. Yikes. I have to have this thing submitted by the 23rd... I'm already considering asking for an extension of a few days.

See those last two lines? Those are the weekend's words.

But now it's Monday and I have all the standard Monday tasks to get done...

Hope you had a productive weekend!

I'm at a loss...

Not much going on around here or over the weekend. I did the minimum laundry and grocery shopping, but otherwise lolled around, reading, cross stitching and watching TV with DH. It wasn't a bad weekend, but it wasn't overly exciting and passed far too quickly. :)

How was your weekend?

Monday, Monday...

Hope you had a lovely weekend. I got a yard work sub-goal done finally. The two large branches have finally been cut up into firewood. Most of the rest of the back yard was mown. I did a lot of reading, a little crafting, and watched some TV too. I also spent a lovely few hours with two dear friends. This morning's blog post didn't get spared a thought, so as a result so you all you get is this.

Have a good Monday...

....morning....

It's Monday.

That is all.

I don't have much to say today, but didn't want you to think I just plum forgot.

Weekend was mostly relaxing, though I didn't accomplish everything I'd hoped.

Hope your Monday is going better mine so far...

Happy Monday, Happy Summer

So today is the first day of summer for my Sonshine. But does he get to lie around and sleep today?? No siree. Sonshine and his good buddy (since Kindergarten, even) are with DH buying an awning and retrieving the boat from the warehouse.

No work for me today either. We're taking a family day and going to the lake. DD is even going along, which is unusual, but cool. My two sisters-in-law will be there too.

Anyway, I won't bore you all with more lake pictures unless they're of something really cool and interesting, but we'll start the Twelve Days of Jen on Wednesday--I have pictures of all my Mother's Day/birthday presents finally, along with one or two other things.

So have a great day wherever you are and whatever you're doing. I'll catch you on Wednesday.

It's a brand new week!

And I'm glad. Friday and Saturday were crazy, but Sunday was relaxing. And today will be busy as I need to get caught up on a few things I put off last week.

Working the Cotton Bowl at Cowboys Stadium was wild. I wasn't expecting it to be that busy, but Arkansas and K-State fans alike are crazy. We had a steady stream of customers the whole time and the game, for whatever reason, took a long time. We sold 250 footlongs and somewhere in the vicinity of 600 sodas! I'm not sure how many beers we sold, but it was a lot, too. I was hoping to be home by 10/10:30--that's what time I was finally able to leave and I didn't make it home until midnight.

Saturday's board/transition meeting went relatively well. There were a few tense moments between a couple of ladies, but overall, we accomplished the things we really needed to.

Sunday was spent recuperating and doing minimal chores in preparation for the work week. I even got some editing in.

Today I look to Thursday and possible band booster board and regular meetings. Ugh. The regular meetings are a waste of time. Nothing I say in the meetings can't just be published in the newsletter I publish each month. But, of course, we have to hold the meetings. I'm thinking they need to be no more than every other month...

One of my goals for this year was to take a writing class every quarter. I spent some time yesterday researching online classes. I found five or six happening over the course of the next five months and will decide if I'm actually going to take them when the time for each draws near. But they are picked out.

The week has begun and, now, so must I!

Not a good way to start the week...

My 3.5 day weekend was very relaxing. (I say 3.5 because I worked Cowboys Stadium on Saturday afternoon/evening.)

One of my critique partners and I met every morning at 8am via a chat room and did writing sprints and worked on our current WIPs. On Friday, we even did some cleaning sprints. :) I came away from the weekend with way more accomplished on my WIP than I'd planned or expected. So I'm excited and thankful for that.

If you want an easy online chat, Chatzy is awesome. You don't have to download anything and you don't have to create an account if you don't want to. And your chat room stays active as long as you use it at least once within every 14-day cycle. (So keep that link handy.)

Thanksgiving was a relaxing quiet affair. The food was delish--if I do say so myself.

So this morning it's back to the real world and I'm dropping kids off at school at ten after seven, stopping by the grocery store for lunch for the week, and taking my walk around the business park this morning. Now, unfortunately, I am my husband's alarm clock. But that requires him to keep his phone next to him when he sleeps and to ensure that the ringer is turned on. So I call him daily at 7:30. Only today he didn't answer. So I tried calling the home phone, hoping the incessant ringing would stir him enough to wake up and then call me to say he was awake. No dice.

And because I had no idea what was on his schedule this morning and he'd slept in until 10 or 11 or noon over the weekend, I didn't want to leave it to chance. Which meant I had to drive home to wake him. Luckily it's only six miles.

Then as I climb into the car, Sonshine texts me to say he's left his school ID at home and he can't go to class without. Lucky for him, I was going home anyway.

Just as I pull into the drive, my phone rings. There's hubby calling me to say he's up. Grrr... But I still had to get the school ID and all my other keys (po boxes and filing cabinet). I zip back by the school to give Sonshine his ID and finally get back to the office.

Whew...but now I'm behind on all my morning tasks which makes me cranky.

Ah, well...now I'm here, caught up and moving on to the next task.

Have a good week. :)
