Refreshed and Inspired and Raring to Go...

You might have noticed that I missed posting Friday's blog... I was at the lake having too much fun.

The view of Lake Conroe from the back deck.

I had planned to post, but time got away from me. :0)

Spending four days with my dearest friends in such a lovely setting is a treat like no other.

Everyone got something done.

My WIP grew by 2K words and I realized how many scenes were missing from it--meaning more words to come. That's a good thing because it was shorter than I like my books to be. The transition from a man/woman romance to a man/man romance is pretty well complete. There are just a few phrases here and there I need to masculine up a bit, but I think I have all the pronouns straightened out.

I figured out how to use the second book still and fleshed out a third character for a possible third book. That's always exciting for me. I'm not the writer who always has a plethora of idea bubbling in my head.

In between sprints and meals and fun, we bonded. Our friendship collectively as well as individually has grown over the years, and we learn so much from each other. That's the real gift of the weekend. These women and the blessing of knowing them.

I have also been inspired to keep on keeping on, to continue on my journeys--the writing/publishing journey as well as the weight loss journey. When people tell you they're inspired by you, there's a pressure to stay the course and not back track. For me it's not a bad pressure, but rather a good one. Even when I'm tempted to be done with whole thing--I've reached my original goal after all--they keep me going. I don't want to let them down.

Hope you had a lovely weekend as well.

So guess where I'm going in June...

The 2018 NHL Draft will be here in North Texas. I'm so excited I could spit. Not because I care all that much about the draft, but because a) it's a new hockey experience to partake in, b) there are fan activities prior to the actual draft in Victory Plaza of the AAC, c) an evening spent with DD, and maybe the most exciting of all...

Puck Soup Live Dallas Edition.

The guys who create my favorite hockey podcast will be in town covering the draft and they have done live shows in other cities they've visited as a result of traveling for the job (hockey writers). As soon as I heard the draft was going to be in Dallas, I was pretty confident they were going to at least attempt to get a live show set up. And they are. Waiting eagerly for the announcement of tickets.

Revenue Streams... and Why Am I Working On This Now...?

One of the keys to making money in publishing, as well as in life in general, is to have multiple revenue streams.

As an author/publisher, my revenue streams include, but are not limited to: e-book, trade paperback, hardcover, audio books, and foreign translations of all of the above. Right now, I have one. E-books. Eventually, I'll branch out to print and maybe audio, but we'll see what happens when I get there.

In general, I have my day job income, but I also have my little proofreading / website-updating / series-bible-creating side job. I have an ongoing website-updating client, but everything else is hit or miss. I had some proofing feelers, but everyone's gone dark for whatever reason. It's not like I don't have enough on my plate at the moment, so I'm not worrying about it overmuch.

On the other hand, I have enough on my plate to worry about at the moment, so why am I fussing around with cross stitch patterns to upload to my Etsy Shop?? Yes, that's another revenue stream I'd like to pump a little bit. I have one pattern up there at the moment--my BBC Sherlock sampler. I do have a pattern for my Harry Potter Spells sampler (which I apparently haven't posted about???), but it's not on Etsy as of yet.

And now I'm working on some small hockey related projects...

They're not very big, slightly larger than a coaster, but they are kinda tedious to stitch. I started #14 as a trial and discovered some flaws in my pattern, so I tweaked. Then I started #91 as the second trial run and ran into a few more issues needing resolution. So I tweaked the pattern a little more.

I also want to offer patterns for teams other than the Stars...but I sure as heck don't want to stitch one of everything, so I'm not sure how to resolve that just yet.

Anyway...as to why now... Well, because I can't be writer & publisher all the time. I need time to do the other things I enjoy and to feed my creative side from a different angle. But to be honest, a) I started this project last year and b) I'm not spending excessive amounts of time on it. It's just nice to work on something different every now and then.

But, after a hockey-filled weekend, It's time to get back to the writing/publishing related things on my plate.

Hope you had a great weekend.

Let's talk about hockey...

Regular professional hockey is on a four-day hiatus for the annual All-Star Break. I've never watched one before, but I'm excited to this year because my favorite hockey player, Tyler Seguin, was selected as the lone player from the Stars.

Getting selected is pretty awesome considering there are thirty-one teams in the NHL and I don't think they send one guy from every team. Some teams have two or three players chosen. So yeah. Tyler is one of the high scoring players in the league--NHL players get individual points for scoring goals as well as assists on goal.

There was some sort of image creating contest/event (#HockeyGoesHolleywood) and these were posted to the STARS Facebook page the other day--they are not my work--not claiming that at all. But they were fun to see.

Needless to say, I'll be spending several hours this weekend in front of the TV or my PC watching the All-Star Break events.

Have a great weekend!!

Nothing New Under the Sun

My Sonshine came home for a visit last week and it's as if he hasn't been away for a year and a half. I still miss him dreadfully sometimes, but it has gotten easier.

The Brown Eyed Girl and her significant other came up from Houston this past weekend as did DD and we celebrated Christmas. Everyone seemed pleased with their gifties. I think the best loved gift was an elephant lamp given to the Brown Eyed Girl. My favorite gift was just having everyone all together for a while visiting and we even played a little Rock Band. (I do so miss that...maybe I should add that to my goal for the year.)

My Brown Eyed Girl has come a long way from just a few years ago and I'm so happy that she's happy and healthy and doing well for herself. She recently got a promotion into a supervisory position. Her boyfriend is a clean cut young man, very handsome, and sweet. (Man--I should have gotten a picture of them...)

(Okay, stolen from her Facebook page :)--more than one way to skin a cat...)
And here's Sonshine and my Brown Eyed Girl...

No pictures of DD because she rarely lets anyone take her picture.

It's sad sometimes to consider that all my babies are actual adults. But on the other hand, life is good.

The Lie of Leinster Gardens

Watching TV can teach you things and take you places.

As I mentioned several posts ago, I finally discovered the BBC's Sherlock--a contemporary remake of Arthur Conan Doyle's famous detective.

One of the location shoots took place at 23 & 24 Leinster Gardens, Bayswater, London and was referred to as the Lie of Leinster Gardens. I Google-searched this to see if was true and sure enough! (Click the address for a bit more detail.)

 (image from Wikipedia)

So basically it's a facade bridging two sections of five-story terraced housing, but there's no actual home behind the two addresses. The underground train system used random open spaces to keep the tunnels free from smoke and for the old steam engines to vent their steam...

Click here to see more images of the back side of the "house." There's also more info via this link.

I wonder if there are any such anomalys here in the States.

Tag, you're it...

My fellow chapter mate has tagged me from her blog: Writing in a Vortex to post seven random things about myself...

Yikes, okay...

1. I've seen the real Little Mermaid.

2. I've attended school in two countries other than America.

This is harder than it looks...

3. I was a "Valley Girl."

4. I am not a coffee drinker--Plantation Mint and Lady/Earl Gray are my tea addictions.

5. I've been to the USS Lexington three times.

6. Creating fan girl Web sites is my just-for-fun thing to do.

7. I am a Trekkie (DS-9 and this year's movie being my favorite incarnations of the franchise.)

So there you have it--seven random and trivial thing about me. And I only read two blogs...L.A.'s and my mom's, so there's no tagging from me.
