Hello Cold Front

I didn't dress for this kind of weather!

In other exciting news--yet another encore of National Theater's Frankenstein starring YOU KNOW WHO--that's Benedict Cumberbatch if you really didn't know--is playing in theaters. I might have a date if a gal from my writers group can get her hubster home on time. Yee haw.

Tonight's my Facebook Live Spotlight for my conference and I'm about as ready as I'll ever be. I've got a cue "doc" (rather than cue cards) ready to go. I have to set up the laptop when I get home and put in my pretend teeth, but otherwise...yup. Ready. I'll let you know how it goes--

Anyway, have a great weekend. See you Monday. :0)

Ode to fog!

I love fog. I love driving around in it and the eerieness of it. Early Sunday and early today, we experienced really great fog--not the kind we normally get--rather thin and easily dissipating. But really thick, very-low-visibility fog. There was a patch on the way to the gym this morning that was so thick I could only see about five feet in front of me. But, as long as I could see the lane lines, all was good. It even thickened up over at the gym between the time I went in and the time I came out.

It was thick enough both mornings to really block out the radiating light from parking lots and large stores that I can usually pinpoint half a mile down the road at least. Not so much yesterday and today. They couldn't be seen until you were right up on them.

Anyway, it's been a fun little adventure, at least for me driving around. One of our employees wouldn't agree as he dislikes fog with a passion. It really spooks him. And it's so thick, really like pea soup today, and all over the Metroplex that it wouldn't surprise me if he had an issue getting to work this morning. :)

Hope you had a good weekend and here's to a productive week.

Perfect Sleeping Weather

Spring has definitely sprung here in North Texas and while it might get a bit humid during the day sometimes, the overnights are simply perfect. I have my bedroom windows open and it's delightful to snuggle under the covers and feel that cool breeze wafting over you.

It's been hard to drag my butt out of the bed in the morning for the last two mornings (but I've done it) because of that cool air/snuggle factor. Tomorrow is Saturday, however, and I'm gonna sleep like a baby until I wake up on my own.

Hope you have a super weekend!

Mum's the word...

It's fall! I love fall--the colors and the smells and the (eventual) dropping of the temperatures.

For three weeks, these mums teased and tantalized me at the grocery store. This past Sunday, I finally broke down and splurged all of $4 on them. That $4 was well spent on something that has and will bring me great pleasure.

But now I have several pots of flowers that need planting--which will require some energy to turn up the soil and plant. I also have to find a spot safe from the dog, who has already trampled one flower bed.

Happy fall, dear friends and readers.

M.I.A....

Yep, I missed posting last Wednesday and Friday. No excuse other than I had a lot on my mind, work was busy, and since I didn't have anything exciting that I wanted to share, I just plum forgot.

But we're -- okay *I'm* -- back, though still with little exciting going on.

Other than -- it's fall!!! Friday night while we were at the football game, a cold front moved in and we now have some true fall temperatures. It's so gorgeous. I even had to break down and turn on the heat. It hasn't run much, just needed to flip it over so that if we needed it, it would come on. Yesterday morning when I went to the grocery store, it was 44* outside. Brrr....

Pretty soon, it's going to be leaf raking time again. I'm gonna stay on top of that chore as best I can. And seeing as how marching season is almost over, it should be easier. Maybe I can even get back to other regular maintenance, not that it's no longer stifling hot.

Today's pic is of Friday night's scoreboard with fifty-nine seconds left in the game--

Yeah, we spanked 'em...

I hope you enjoyed your weekend!

It's a Misty Moisty Morning...

...when foggy is the weather. So foggy, in fact, the fog advisory lifted only a short time ago.

(Usually there are red tail lights on the right side of this highway heading toward Dallas.)

The fog, clouds, and mist suit my mood just fine. Too bad I can't crawl back in bed for a few hours. It's great sleeping weather.

In other news, DH and I sat the kids down last night and had a discussion about house rules. It was made perfectly clear to them all, in front of each other, what the rules are, what the consequences could be, and what's expected of them. It was a late night since the Brown Eyed Girl had work. She has additional rules to follow. Not from us, but due to her stint through prison. Parole and probation. As a condition of coming back home she has to abide by those rules as well. She was not very pleased, but we made it perfectly clear (to all of them) that if they don't like our rules, they are free to move out. DD and Sonshine are perfectly fine with the rules. But that Brown Eyed Girl just seems to chafe under them. And it's not like our house rules are really that difficult and harsh. Sheesh.

In other other encouraging news, I have dropped a few more pounds. I haven't talked about it since the beginning of the month. I'm still ingesting more carbs and sugar than I should, but miraculously, in the last week, the weight has trickled off. Now I've got to switch from carb-laden dinners to protein & veggie rich meals. That should help me get past the line I'm straddling. One scale says 141.8, one says 139.9. I'd rather be firmly planted in the 130s so on to the next step. My goal is somewhere between 116 and 120.

Sunday breakfast plans in Fort Worth with friends are finally finalized. I'm excited about hanging out with ladies and seeing more of my city. Fort Worth Fridays will be every other Friday, probably starting February 8th.

I'm glad it's the weekend. Big plans??

Running a little behind...

New things are going on here at the day job. People are here and working when I arrive so I tend to get sucked into doing work earlier.

As you know, I gave up my writing room for my Brown Eyed Girl. I was mostly happy to do so, though I do admit to feeling a little out of sorts about it. But I've been feeling the displacement keenly. I don't have a place to go to write that's quiet, or at the very least, where I can be alone. DH isn't staying up late watching TV anymore--he's going to bed early (due to the aforementioned changes at the office) and watching TV in our room. Which means I can't write in our bedroom. Grrr...

So this morning, I claimed myself some space:

Yes, that's right--the newly cleaned up garage!!

I've got my camping chair, a TV tray for a desk, and my bookshelf. There's an outlet just next to that armoire in the upper right corner to plug in my laptop. I don't care what it looks like (right now), as long as I can write in peace and quiet. And I need to write!!

I've also been narrowing down publishers to submit to. I've submitted to Entangled already, but if they decline, I need backup. So I've been looking at websites--how do they look? Do they look professional and not amateurish. In terms of the books they sell, does the site scream trashy novel or respectable romance? I don't care if they sell erotic romance, I just don't want the site to look like it sells porn that needs to be carried home in a brown paper bag. And I'm not dissing erotic romance either--I've written my fair share of graphic sex. The next thing to look at is do they want what I write, not only genre, but length.

Anyway, I've narrowed it down six e-publishers. There's more winnowing to be done based on other factors, but that's for another day.

The weather is awesome. The heat is gone and the crisp is here. Now if only I could drag myself out of bed at 5am to walk and/or write.

What's new with you??

What's new, pussycat?

Well, the week's new. But that's about it.

The weather's odd, but that's not unusual for this time a year, although it's a wee bit early. Normally, we see this stuff in April, rather than March, but I think our whole weather pattern has shifted by a month or so. *shrugs* I dunno. --It just rained! And now it's done.--

We had our office A/C worked on last Friday and it seems to have finally worked. Last year we have three or four different A/C people come out, poke around, and give us song and dance about this that or the other. But none of them fixed it. We made it through the summer by the skin of our teeth. Since summer may come upon us sooner than usual, we decided to call back the company that had helped us out when the heat wasn't working.

One of the previous A/C people had *unhooked* the heater wires thinking that was the problem. *guh*. The tech who came out said to monitor the differential (that's A/C jargon for something) and call them back if things get worse again. We'd gone from a four degree differential to a ten. Higher is better. He also said, due to the age of our system, the max we'd probably see would be 12 to 15. Another contributing factor is that our ducts are full of gaps, so we're going to have someone fix those up. After that, I'm hoping we'll be good to go for this summer. I think they're expecting temperatures just as hot, though I certainly hope not for 80 straight days. :(

Sonshine got his glasses last week. They said 7 to 10 business days, but he got them in like 2 or 3. But that was fortuitous because then he had all the rest of spring break to let his eyes adjust to wearing them. And he looks quite good in them, too.

My Saturday went well. The regular chapter meeting was awesome as was my confab with my CPs afterwards. Everyone has reported back that are feeling rejuvenated or inspired, so YAY! As for me, I'm feeling the same--doubting my abilities to pull of this thing called writing. But I shall...

Keep calm and carry on!

Have a good week.

It's cool, it's cool, it's SOOOOO cool here!!!

...cue Charlie Brown music...

*Snoopy dancing*

Yesterday when I got up and let the dogs out, it was 69*/70*. I opened all the windows in the house and they stayed open ALL day. I sat out on the back patio yesterday morning as well, enjoying the delicious cool temps with my hot tea and laptop.

Right now, 9am, it's ONLY 63*!!!! I'm wearing a sweater in my office!!!

We have not seen temperatures this cool in at least 90 days!!!

Yes, I'm excited. :)

I wish I were at home again, on my patio with hot tea and my laptop. Alas, the work week has started and I have more than enough on my plate.

Have a good week, y'all!

It Rained!!

For about 4.5/5 hours Saturday morning.

I think it started somewhere around 4am, though that's a guess, and it rained until 8:30/9am. It didn't rain as hard as I would have liked for all that time, but beggars can't be choosers, I know.

Saturday remained "cool" only reaching the mid-80s temperature wise. Sunday was a little warmer, though I don't think we broke 100*. But today we're back to triple digits.

The house is 98% done. Now it's time to put it all back together. My FIL starts a new job today and will return next weekend to finish up minor things.

Tonight, I'll go over my new bedroom floor with a couple of coats of Mop n' Glo before moving my furniture back in there. I'll dust my ceiling fan and all the shelves and decorations. Then each piece of furniture will also be wiped down before it gets to return home.

Unfortunately, our bed money had to be spent to buy additional boxes of flooring, so no new bed anytime soon. :( I will have to buy new sheets though.

Once we're back in our room, we'll work on getting Sonshine's room put back together. His room & furniture will undergo similar cleaning in the process. Despite his penchant for falling asleep on the couch, he is looking forward to getting his own bed back.

I did get to enjoy my writing room yesterday though my bed's still in it and I didn't actually write. I cross-stitched and listened to music. It was nice and cool and quiet. :)

Pictures tomorrow.

The Perfect Day

Yesterday was a perfect day. Baby boy spent the night at a friend's house and wasn't home, DD went to church, hubby spent the night at his mom's house. I was alone. A cold front moved in Saturday leaving our neck of the woods much, much cooler that it had been. The morning was cloudy, slightly humid, but cool. I opened all the windows and enjoyed fresh air and the sounds of nature.

And I wrote. Actually, I did quite a bit of editing/revising. In between bouts of writing, I cleaned house and did laundry. So I was doubly productive. I love days like that.

Then around 1pm-ish, the clouds dissipated and the sun came out. The moisture in the air went away and it was a beautiful, gorgeous afternoon. I should have gone outside to enjoy it, but I can't see my laptop screen and I was on a roll and had a goal to meet, so I opted to stay inside and keep on trucking. I met the goal and then some, partially making up for some of the previous days' word counts I missed. But I'm still a bit behind.

It's raining, it's pouring...

...but the old man isn't snoring. He's hard at work already.

It's perfect sleeping in weather. The cold front hit and we have delightful coolness and more rain. But that's okay, 'cause this is Texas and we always need rain. As does my lawn.

I'd rather be home cleaning house and writing--

Hope you are able to do what pleases you today.
