HAPPY THANKSGIVING

I have so much to be thankful for. And I've taken to speaking my gratitude out loud each and every morning on my way to work and on Sundays on my way to pick up groceries.

I have a whole list of people and things that I speak my gratitude for.

And today, we'll be visiting with DH's family, enjoying good company and good food.

May your day be filled with the same.

See you Monday.

Give Thanks

Hope you're having or had a lovely day filled with good food and your favorite people.

We had no extended family plans this year, so we will all be enjoying a long weekend; and as DD and I did last year, we are going to the zoo again. We're checking out the Dallas Zoo this year. Pics on Monday.

Have a super looong weekend.

Catch you next week.

History This Week / Thanksgiving Reconsidered

 Happy Thanksgiving!

There are so many things I'm grateful for, including this wonderful four-day weekend, but did you know that the history of Thanksgiving is rather ugly?

Also!

The pilgrims didn't land at Plymouth Rock!! There was no such thing / place until later when the locals area dragged a huge rock into place and just declared it the "arrival" location of our original forefathers in order to drum up tourism to help their local economy...

By this time, I hope we all know the native peoples of America were savagely mistreated and exterminated, much like the Jews were in Europe.

Also...

It wasn't an official holiday until 1870 when Ulysses S. Grant made it one, so, whaaat?

For a look at the sordid tale, visit History This Week.

* * * * *

On to nicer topics...

One of the things I'm thankful for is my kids. All three of them of course, but I only have one living close enough to spend time with. You know her as DD and my Hockey Partner in Crime.

She's my second child and my younger daughter...and today, we're going to spend some more time together...not just at home enjoying a delicious meal, but at the zoo. It's been a while since our last trip and we've been wanting to go and meaning to go and finally we found a good time to go.

So--lol--we're going today!

Hope you have / had / are having a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Happy Thanksgiving

HAPPY THANKSGIVING FRIENDS!

It's been a year, hasn't it? It started off pretty well. DH and I and his parents went on a wonderful cruise to the Western Caribbean -- yup that was 2020 -- and when we returned home, the world changed pretty drastically.

Despite it all, I have things to be thankful for:

My husband, my three wildly different children, my fur babies, my two moms, my siblings, my nieces and nephews, for our business that keeps on keeping on, the ability to write and publish books, for my dearest friends (known to each other as the Cotton Patch Kids), for my writers group, for other authors and their books, for fan fiction, for music, for Perfectly Mint Tea, Benedict Cumberbatch, my online friends far and wide, my Dallas Stars and hockey in general...

Hope you have a lovely day tomorrow filled with delicious food, family and/or friends, and fun.

100 Things Challenge

So, on Monday, I shared a picture of my car full of stuff that I took to a donation center. A lot of that stuff had been piled up before I started this 100 Things Challenge, especially the bags of clothes, but can you believe that I've only culled TEN things from my house during the course of the challenge so far???

Yup. Only ten...because I've lumped like things together: cups and glasses, DVDs, curtains and tablecloths, board games. If I counted each item individually, I'd probably be well over 200, but that seemed sorta like cheating so I didn't.

TEN THINGS

Seems a bit paltry, but I shall persevere.

Next items to go: all the tote bags I don't use and won't work for groceries, a rather large bubba keg, a DVD player, and a Dance Dance Revolution mat.

Now we're up to FOURTEEN!!

Go, Jen, go!!

I had thought to post some other stuff, but there's not much going on because of the holiday, so I will sign off now.

Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving with those nearest and dearest to you. But if you can't be with those folks, then I hope you're with the next best thing, whatever that means for you.

Happy Thanksgiving!

This is going to be short and sweet because, well, it's time to be thankful and travel and spend time with family and friends. No one wants to read my ramblings today!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING to one and all.

Hope you have super day filled with food, fun, family and friends.

Happy Day After Thanksgiving...

Dinner was a delicious offering at my sister-in-law's house. Thanks, Tracey! And we made it home safely, though slowly in the pouring down rain. It was still warm at 70ish on the way home. The cold front arrived sometime overnight and now it's brrrrr chilly!

My apologies for the video--I did not actually watch it before I posted it. It was the official music video and so I just posted it. Last night, I wanted to listen to the song, so rather than put the ear buds in, I played the YouTube official video and was a little shocked by the video...ahem. Again, I'm so sorry. And if you skipped it, you're lucky. I wish I could unsee it. The song itself is fine, but the video...don't be tempted.

I think at some point I mentioned NANOWRIMO and that I was going to be working on a fan fic for an exchange. Well, I turned in the fic two days late, and it's not even finished. I guess I should say I was able to end the fic at a good and logical place, but the story isn't over for our intrepid heroes, even with 22K+ words of it. So the writing will continue, though there's no longer a deadline to worry about. I can take my time and participate in life again. Being immersed in that world was exciting and invigorating, but when I came up for air, I was a bit tuckered out and crashed early for three days straight.

I had fun in that world though and want to go back, so I've started writing the next part--though not at a such a feverish rate. I spent some time on a timeline and started an outline, though it needs a bit of fleshing out. Just a bit though.

The rest of the weekend will be spent holed up at home. We're supposed to have rain all weekend. Who wants to be out in that? The only place I might have to go is Pet Smart for dog food. Let's see how long we can hold out.

Enjoy your long weekend!

Happy Thanksgiving!

I suppose I should expound on all the things I'm grateful for, which hasn't change much last year, so I'm still grateful for all the people who put up with me and for my house, a car, and food!

But today I'm happy because it's a four-day weekend which is starting early for us and because I've written this mini-epic and I love it.

So we're celebrating with some music. This song became the defacto theme of this fic, which reached a stopping point because I had to submit it, but is not finished...

Enjoy and have a wonderful holiday with those you hold nearest and dearest. Or those who are just closest. :)

I'm leaving on a jet plane...

Though I'll be back in two day's time...

(Image courtesy Wikipedia, although I have no idea is this is the type of plane we'll end up on.
Airline, yes, aircraft make & model...?)

Heading to Chicago to see Seaman Recruit Sonshine for Thanksgiving.

DD will be house-and dog-sitting for us, and then DH and I will celebrate Thanksgiving with the girls on Sunday.

Safe travels and Happy Thanksgiving to one and all.

A time for thankfulness and writing

Happy Thanksgiving day to all my faithful readers. I hope your day was fun and relaxing with good food and the people you most enjoy being with.

Some of my Facebook peeps have been sharing each day something they're thankful. While I could come up with 30 things I'm thankful, I'll just list a few...

My family, of course. Immediate and extended, to include DH, the Brown-Eyed Girl, DD, and Sonshine. My mom and my grandma. My step-mom, my sisters and brothers, my nieces and nephews. My mother- and father-in-law, my sisters- and brothers-in-law. And my dog Sammy.

I'm thankful for the members of the US military, past, present, and future, who fight for my freedoms.

I'm thankful that my Brown-Eyed Girl is still with us and celebrated 2 years of sobriety this past Tuesday.

I'm thankful for my hubby of 19 years and that he's put up with me this long.

I'm thankful for my writing friends and the writing community for the friendships I've made and the things I've learned over the last nine years.

Speaking of writing...I've got 4900 words to come up with by the 8th in order to earn my next charm. Unfortunately, the writing has been a struggle of late. But I have the rest of the weekend to get back into it and try to bang out some words.

So on that note, I'm going to sign off now.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Hmm...

I'm an aunt again for the seventh time. It's a boy, my third nephew. (Phew)

He was born yesterday (11.23) around 4/4:30pm CST, weighing in at 6lbs., 14oz.

Name: Austin James--although that's not the correct spelling for Austin. I think my sister used a y somewhere instead.

I'm not all that excited about this kid, to be honest, for various reasons.

~

My daddy died one year ago today. (Part of the *meh* surrounding my newest nephew, I think.)

~

I am wearing summer clothes to work the day before Thanksgiving. Even in Texas that's a bit odd. :)

~

My current fanfic-in-progress is finally moving along again. I was able to get quite a bit written yesterday and last night, I spent a few minutes outlining what still needs to happen. I had actually written some of the end bits some time ago and then recently I'd written some more whilst trying to overcome the struggle I was having with the current chapter. So I think, with all the alone time I'll be enjoying soon, I'll be able to finally get this story finished by the end of the year.

I'm definitely ready to have that story behind me so I can focus on other writing projects.

~

To cook or not to cook...we have decided to accept our invite to Thanksgiving dinner. However, I have already started defrosting my own turkey and will cook it on Saturday. I've had this thing for almost a year now. It needs to be eaten. Of course, it may not be suitable for cooking/eating after being in the freezer that long. If that's the case, I'll just go buy another another one.

One of these days, my children are going to start coming to my house for holiday meals and I'm woefully out of practice. As I mentioned a few days ago, I think I've cooked a holiday meal only once or twice since I've been married. I'm not complaining at all, but it's time I developed my own techniques and menu.

On that note, Happy Thanksgiving to one and all.

Real progress...

As I sat on my bum most of yesterday, my husband and my son worked steadily throughout the day and now I have a good portion of my new kitchen floor installed. And boy does it look different from the plywood!

I'll try to get a picture taken to show it off, but no promises--I'll have to scrounge up a camera.

I hope you all had a relaxing Thanksgiving, as I did. I hope the food was good and the company enjoyable. It was just the five of us sitting around the living room watching the tail end of the parade and then some football. We read, surfed the 'Net, and napped. And as far as I know, my hubby didn't do a lick of work, which is a feat, let me tell ya.

Well, let me go enjoy what remains of peace in my house before everyone else wakes up. Plus, I actualy have to start painting molding today.

I hope you continue to enjoy the rest of your Thanksgiving weekend--
