Captain's Log Supplemental

So last night I worked at Dallas Cowboys Stadium...December 2, right? Why was it still warm outside when we left last night at, oh, 11:30??? I'm not complaining. There's hardly enough room for the bodies in the stand, much less heavy winter coats, but it's December. It should be colder. Crazy.

Breakthrough! Last week, I shared that my friend (and last week's guest) Angi Morgan read my manuscript and made very helpful comments. I was able to get back into the game on this WIP. I'm glad to report that I have cut enough words to drop back under the required 10 to 15K word count for the line I'm targeting. But I still have some in dept revisions to make and the word count is going to push the 15K limit until I hit The End. But I think that's really going to challenge me to choose the right words and make every single one of those bad boys count.

The only constant is change...which I really don't like. Last week, one of our employees gave notice. In and of itself, that's not really a bad thing, but his departure comes at a really bad time. Not only will his last day be the first day of fireworks season (the 20th)--when DH and Sonshine are out of town, but our other employee is going on vacation (out of the country) on the 22nd. That means DH is our only employee for three weeks.

Now thankfully, it's over the holidays and we run rather slow this time of year, but DH can't be two places at once. So...I may be running the fireworks store with Sonshine for the first 10 days. I'm not as dismayed by possibility as I once might have been. Because what it means is a lot of writing time! And right now I want it and need it.

And still no word from the editors at Entangled. But any time now. *fingers crossed*

Check back in tomorrow for my next Christmas post!

Hello World

After too many years to admit too, I finally have a doctors appointment. It's just for a general physical to start and then we'll work up to gynecological visits. But I'm paying an outrageous amount for health care that I never use so I've decided to finally get my butt in gear.

I've been doing a bit of housekeeping in my iTunes, removing all the stuff that belongs to my kids that I don't like and giving it back to them. I maintain two copies of my collection, one on the business server where space is really not an issue and the other on my laptop where space is at a premium. And I'm one of those anal personalities who wants my two collections to match (except for my TV show/movie collection which would fill my laptop hard drive twice over). So I have been weeding through.

The one big project I have been working on for over a week is almost finished. It won't ever be completely done, but the big annual rush of a certain task is almost over. *whew* That's been a bit of a stresser for me.

Next up, a meeting at Dallas Cowboys Stadium in preparation for working the Super Bowl, including a motivational talk by Jerry Jones himself. I doubt I'll get to meet him personally, but on the off chance I do, I'm going to ask him why it's such a problem to get a decent broom and dust pan in the stand (that I don't have to share with the neighboring stand) so I can clean his multi-billion dollar investment properly.

The weather is warming up. I drove to work this am with the windows slightly down to enjoy the fresh, cool morning air. Had the heat on my feet, tho. :)

How are things with you?

BWAH

It's shaping up to be a not-so-good day. It's just a feeling and I hope I'm wrong because I'm starting to feel a bit stressed.

Today is day three on my own. It hasn't been too bad, to be honest. I answered a fair share of phone calls yesterday and one of our techs was out yesterday so everything fell to the other. The tech is out again today and we have one client who will be especially cranky to hear that. Hubby is going to have to take care of her issue.

On top of answering phones, I've actually worked most of the day the past two days. I've taken stolen moments to do personal things, but with payday (the 1st) there's extra tasks involved and I now that it is just me, I can't afford to put things off or get behind.

I know you might be thinking, "oh, poor baby actually has to work." And I'm not really complaining, I'm just not used to having that many things to remember to do in a day. It'll get easier each day as I develop a new routine and integrate these new tasks.

In addition to that, I have to work Cowboy's Stadium tomorrow. I'm not really looking forward to that, but that's okay. It's not that I mind doing it--only that it chews up nine hours of a day and by the end I'm completely exhausted and can hardly do much else.

On Sunday I may have to make a whirlwind trip out of town to check out a drug rehab facility for my oldest DD. A seven hour drive one way. So I may really have no weekend. :(

How about those Cowboys?

The Dallas Cowboys, that is.

Last night I worked a concession stand at the brand-spankin'-new Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

First let me say, thank goodness they move to Arlington! The new stadium is a hop, skip and jump down the highway from my house. A blessing indeed at 11PM when you are utterly exhausted. We arrived at 2PMish to get the stand set up. It's not really a stand, per se, but most of you have been to professional sports venues--yeah, we were in the one of those beer, burger, hot dog selling stands built into the facility.

That was an experience and I'm still too exhausted/sore to gather my thoughts about it at the moment.

But in case you were wondering why I was there...working the stand on behalf of the band boosters for my son's band. The contract with the Dallas Cowboys is their main source of income each year.

Anyhow, it was just an exhibition game, but the Cowboys won against the Dolphins.

And since my efforts were in support on my son--who, by the way, was chosen "Bandsman of the Week" at the game he attended/marched at last night. It was announced over the P.A., too... *big momma grin* I wish I could have been there for that!--here is the video of his band playing a part of their competition program as promised.
