GO STARS!!

As I must've mentioned somewhere :0) the Stars home opener was last night with DD and I in attendance. And they won! Definitely a nice way to start the season.

But I realized a few things...

Being even a partial season ticket holder means I'll (obviously) be attending a lot more games, which means...

A) I have to come up with a game day dinner-to-go because eating arena food every time will be too expensive. Not only in terms of dollars, but also in terms of calories and carbohydrates.

B) Even though it'll usually be late by the time I get home, I still have to make a point to brush my teeth. Teeth care is a must for me these days as I have various mouth issues, so this is going to be a challenge I have to win.

C) I need to solve my shoe situation for games. Arenas are cold. The floors are concrete. My feet are my barometers. If my feet are warm, I am warm. My sneakers have never kept my feet warm. Next game I'll try my boots.

D) I need to solve my "Stars Gear" situation. I mean--you have to wear gear right?? You can't go in just any old thing.

I have two Dallas Stars shirts. One is just a generic Victory Green team shirt, the other is a player shirt. Both of which are made of regular tee shirt fabric. Neither of which will keep me warm enough once the weather turns cold. And who wants to wear a jacket over their gear??

The Hangar (the onsite team store) has all kinds of hoodies and jackets and jerseys. The stuff's not cheap, so I'll have to save up and look for coupons and discount offers and slowly build my collection of layers. Long sleeved tees, lightweight jackets, jerseys. I'm a firm believer in layers.

Perhaps for Christmas I should request gift certificates and such for The Hangar and Shop.NHL.com. :0)

On a side note, George Strait dropped the ceremonial first puck. I forget how much I love his music. Did you know he has more number one songs than any other artist in any genre of music? He is also third only to Elvis Presley and The Beatles with the most gold and platinum albums in the history of music. Pretty damn good, eh?

I'll leave you with this. Have a great weekend.

The Cowboy Rides Away

On Saturday, June 7, country music legend George Strait will play his final concert tour concert.

Ever.

Yep, it's the end of an era and one I'm very sad to see.

The man makes fantastic music and has earned every one of the accolades and awards he's received over the years and he sure as heck deserves to enjoy whatever he's planning on doing from here on out, but the world of country music will be the poorer.

In 2006, he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame...

(Taken by me!)

I wish we still worked the concession stands at Cowboys Stadium because HELL YES I'd work this concert.

And I leave you with this...

Best of luck, Mr Strait...

Countdown to Christmas

So yesterday, we put up the tree. And once you get the tree up, well, you've got to put ornaments on it.

Over the years, I've accumulated two kinds of ornaments. The kid-made, given-as-a-gift kind, annual ornament and the themed kind.

We also had two trees for awhile. The small one got all the kid-made, collectible, gift ornaments and the big tree was all purty and sparkly with the matching themed ornaments. Then we sent the little tree down to the fireworks store along with one of those matching sets and so this year, the big tree will be decked out with all the old stand-by favorites.

My kids each have a collection of ornaments that I made (back when I was single and/or poor) or bought each and every year. These are the ones they get to take when they leave home so that their first tree will not be naked. :)

As we sorted through ornaments, my Brown Eyed Girl said this is her favorite of our traditions.

Here are the girls 1st Christmas ornaments, hand made by me back when I was poor and practiced my craft skills.

We took some time to sort through everyone's ornaments and catalogue them, and we discovered that there are several years for which the kids have no ornaments. So I guess we're going to have to fill in some gaps.

I also came across an ornament that I got from an old friend back when I was a kid.

Here's a shot of Sonshine's ornaments, which include a shameful number of Scooby Doo. He does love Scooby Doo, but even I didn't realize how overboard I've gone. I guess we'll have to lay off the SD. Also in the collection are Blue of Blue's Clues fame and Winne the Pooh who needs no explanation.

So enough about our ornaments....

It's time for our daily Christmas song. Let's see...how about something more contemporary. I mentioned George Strait's Christmas Cookies on Friday, so let's listen to that.

Tell me about your ornaments.
