My birthday came early!!
My beautiful DD and her friend went to a local Jamba Juice to meet former STARS player Marty Turco and current player Devin Shore. The Stars were giving out free stuff and the girls brought me home some goodies! LOOK!
A Youth Large Jamie Benn jersey!! And, yes, it fits. :0)
A Stars pennant!
And some smaller goods...
And then they saw THIS at Target...
I've been wanting the Stars faux-LEGO zamboni for a while and the girls bought this for me too.
I am blessed.

Fall is definitely here to stay now...
And it's lovely temperatures. It's time to get out the winter blanket for the bed, too.
How an update on me? I mean, it is my blog right...
Okay, so binge-watched the last half of season two of Madam Secretary. Some interesting twists and turns and now I can catch up on season three, which is airing this TV season. Discovered that there's very little fan fiction for the show as a whole and none for my favorite character, Blake Moran, the Secretary's personal assistant. Not that I need to be reading or writing fan fiction for another fandom, but I might dabble a little bit when I need a break from writing my books. :)
(Erich Bergen as Blake Moran)
I am also following Stars hockey closely this season. The boys aren't doing so hot at the moment. They had a couple of back to back losses as well as some unfortunate injuries. And in support of my new sporting fandom, I bought this...
...also because my trusty duty travel mug is on its last legs with a crack on the inside and hole on the outside from two separate drops. Oops.
My work PC was updated to Windows 10 this past weekend, so I will slowly have to re-download all my usual pieces of software and applications. I have to get all my background and options and tabs re-set too. That's the part I hate the most...getting my little environment all set back up the way I like it.
Workouts are going well, too. I'm still not losing the weight like I want, but I know I'm building muscle and (hopefully) eliminating fat. Which might account for some of my struggle. I also binged carbs yesterday, so that may be why the scale is being ornery. I did good last week in general though and cut way back. I also resisted the urge to buy cereal and milk when I went grocery shopping the last two weeks because I cannot resist a bowl of cereal to save my life. But overall, for 48 years old, I think I'm doing rather well.
Hope you had a lovely weekend, and here's to a decent work week. See you Wednesday. :)

Podfic Update
At the beginning of the month, I talked here about the podfic I'd created. As a refresher, podfic is basically like an audio book, only it's fan fiction being read and not a "real" published book.
Well, reveals were finally made and my recipient--the author of the fic I read/turned into podfic--seemed quite pleased with my efforts and had many complimentary things to say about the end product. He or she also wants to link it to the original written version housed at a major fic archive.
Needless to say, I'M VERY CHUFFED at the response and can't wait to visit the fic page and actually see the link.
So, while I still don't have much time at the moment to learn the software, I definitely want to try my hand (or mouth??) at this again.

The Annual JAG Meet was this past weekend...
I spent the better part of two days with two handfuls of wonderful women. We come from all walks of life, we're all ages, some have kids, some don't. This year we missed several usual faces, but were blessed with some ladies we haven't seen in a few years.
This annual gathering is one of the highlights of my year. These ladies never cease to amaze with their creativity and humor. I've thought about not going several times, but this is a place where I can let my fan girl fly and they all understand. :)
Here's to another wonderful JAG meet!

Atlanta here I come...
(Midtown Atlanta--image source: Wikipedia)
Three weeks form today, I'll be winging my way to Atlanta for a fan-run Sherlock con. It's my first trip to Atlanta and to a con. I'm both excited and a bit anxious. I've flown enough in the last couple years (thanks, Sonshine) for that part of the trip not to be a worry. But the hotel is across town from the airport, so I still need to research and plan for traversing the city somehow.
Attending such a popular con by myself is a bit daunting, but I've wanted to experience fandom on a larger scale than just reading and writing fan fiction and from my side of keyboard and monitor. So I'm doing it.
There are going to be tons of people wearing costumes (basically dressing up as characters from various universes of Sherlock Holmes), and I thought about it, but the one unique costume I came up with would have been a bear to travel with. I decided to just stock up on Sherlock t-shirts and just be what I am, a fan girl.
Along with all the cosplay going on, there will be panels just like at any con. I need to look up the topics and decide what I want to attend and if I want to do any sightseeing while I'm there.
Anyone been to Atlanta? Did you like it? Any must sees?

Happy Early Birthday to Me!!!
So Friday's my birthday, but through a quirk of circumstance, I ended up with my birthday gift a couple of days early!
On this new tablet, I have access to all my various email accounts, all kinds of TV show watching apps, as well as my social media sites. Plus there's a camera and an FM radio! Too cool.
In addition to my new tablet, my new I-survived-running-my-chapter's-writing-contest reward also arrived. Last year, I bought myself this...which I still have and still use. But it's a little large. Though great for traveling as I discovered last fall while visiting Sonshine at boot camp.
My reward this year, in honor of a new fandom love, I got this...
Yep--a purse made out of a book. :) I'm so terribly excited. Sometimes a gal just needs to let her fan girl tendencies run amok.
That pattern there, on the second picture, it's the pattern of the wallpaper in the BBC's Sherlock 221B set!! How cool is that?? Can't wait to show it off.
Are you a fan person? There are all levels you know, from lurker to fan writer or fan artist to cos player or podcast producer.
Do you participate in any fandoms at any level of fannishness?? Do tell!

Getting crafty...
First of all -- before we get to the crafts -- I need to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my MOM.
My love of crafts came from my mom, so what better way to pay tribute than by talking about my crafts. I still haven't quite finished the last Christmas ornament I need to make. I'm so close to being done it really is ridiculous. I need to just get it finished and sent on its way....
I've been working on a secret fan craft project for the last couple of weeks as well. I can't share it yet since I'm making one for a friend as well as one for myself, and I don't want her surprise to be spoiled. I'm putting it in the mail here in the next few days, so once she receives it, we'll have the big reveal.
And the next big thing, which I'm super excited about is a cross stitch sampler...fan girl style! Remember last year I made this for my friend Michelle...
Well, I'm making myself a SHERLOCK sampler for myself to hang in my office with my autographed pictures of Sherlock and Mycroft...
I've seen a couple on Pinterest and I'm using those as a guide to design my own. It'll be awhile to get everything designed and laid out the way I want it and still more time to stitch it, but I'm looking forward to it.
Anyone else crafting??

Fan Girl Alert
Ten years ago, on this day, the final episode of one of my favorite TV shows, JAG, aired.
I have a group of friend who met because of their love of the show. Of course, we've grown and changed and moved onto other shows, but our friendships have remained. JAG was my first foray into fandom. I love being a fan girl!
Tonight those of us who live in the DFW area are getting together to hang out, eat dinner, and watch the last episode all over again.
Several years ago, our whole Texas contingent, plus a couple of extras took a weekend trip to Port Aransas and visited the USS Lexington. Some scenes from JAG's pilot episode were filmed aboard her. We had a blast.
Yes, I'm there in the front, in orange, weighing thirty pounds more than I do now.
Have a great Wednesday.

Hump Day Happiness
It really was a very good weekend...
I already shared my stickers and my friend Molly's book, so now...the rest of the story.
I know, Paul Harvey I'm not!
So, Saturday, Rita Award winning author Cindy Dees spoke at my writers group. It was an awesome presentation about Big Characters and Big Scenes. Cindy was able to query over 40 editors on what they look for and this was the result. And she's nice and she's funny and she's a member of my chapter. Cindy writes Romantic Suspense for Harlequin.
On top of that, I earned another charm for last month's editing. And as I mentioned yesterday, I had a charm I gave myself for finishing Snowball and submitting it. (No, I still haven't heard back.)
So the horseshoe is from the chapter, the key from myself to go with the lock...
Oh, wait--I've gotten ahead of myself...on Friday, DD was also working on a surprise for me:
Yes, that's a wand. It's also a pen.
I'm sorry, I just can't help myself. :)
And when I got home DD had yet another surprise waiting for me:

While at Barnes & Noble, I found this:
I'm sorry, I just can't help myself. :)
And when I got home DD had yet another surprise waiting for me:
That, my friends, is butter beer. If you're a Harry Potter fan, you'll know what it is. If you're not familiar with the stories, butter beer is a common beverage in the wizarding world. I wasn't keen on it myself as its base is creme soda, which I don't care for. But the thought was sweet.
So what's the sweetest thing someone's done for you lately??

What's going on around here...?
Well, for starters, I am sick. It's been quite some time since I have said that. One of my mottoes is "God never gives you more than you can handle." For months I have been stressed about many many things, primarily finances. But I have not been sick. Oh, the sickies have tried to get me, but I fought them off.
Sunday, I started feeling the onset of the sickies and I fought as hard as I could, but the sickies won this round. However, yesterday, we received a huge check for some forensic work hubby did last month. That allowed us to get pretty much caught up on all the bills. So now, I can be sick and not have to worry about money. At least for another few weeks.
As for me, my Robin Hood fandom is quiet at the moment, although we are gearing up for a couple of events. My writing chapter will be e-mailing out contest entries to judges (of which I am one) so I'll be judging those here shortly. I am on schedule with my one-episode-a-day Robin Hood rewatch and have jettisoned through the first four and half seasons of Stargate Atlantis, too. Gotta love John Sheppard--a man in uniform with a gun just really thrills me for some reason. I have hooked up with a gal in Florida that I know from my RH fandom for online writing accountability. We check-in on Tuesdays with word counts. The goal is 2K a week.
