According to the 10-day forecast for our area, it looks as if we're going to break the 42-day in a row over 100* record made back in 1980.
We've (that's a relative term encompassing all of Texas at the moment) have been suffering drought-like conditions for several years now and lakes, rivers and reservoirs are getting lower and lower.
The reservoir at San Angelo State Park is so low that all the life within it has died and the resulting decay and bacteria has caused the water to turn blood red in color. A preacher in Indiana has hypothesized the beginning of the End Times. Read this article and this one for more details. Of course most people are going to dismiss the notion, but I really don't think it's so far fetched. Just because there's a scientific reason to explain it, doesn't mean it's not related.
I personally DO believe the world is now on the path to Armegeddon. Do I think it's going to happen any time soon? Depending on your definition of soon, as in the next two or five or ten years, I think ten years is possible. If you're not of a mind to believe in God and in the Bible then, of course, all this is a bunch of hooey.
The Bible can be quite the dry read, but Joel Rosenberg has penned a series of five books (all fiction, this link goes to the first book on amazon.com) chronicling an End Times scenario and steeped in thorough research of End Times prophecy. Even if you don't buy into God, the Bible, and End Times prophecy, the books are all immensely good reads if you enjoy political thrillers.
A bit of a turn from my original intended topic, but we'll get back to our regularly scheduled posts on remodeling and other shallow stuff. :)

WHY?
Why are we here in Texas (among other places) experiencing a drought and the upper mid-west anywhere along the Missouri River has been flooded??
Farms, homes, business, wildlife destroyed...
Most of my family, who lives in an Omaha suburb, is fine. Although, my step-mother says that if the water wasn't being "controlled" (HA HA HA HA HA) they'd be wet too. They live only three miles due west of the river. (See the red X.) Luckily the area is somewhat hilly, so they are above normal river levels.
If we can build the Alaska Pipeline, surely we could have put some sort of system in place to pipe all this water to places the need it, like Arizona or Texas?? I mean we had to have known this was coming, right?
Are we just that stupid or complacent or lazy? We must be.
I am feeling decidedly helpless.
What can I do? What difference can I make? It all seems so very hopeless.

BUMMED
We can't sell fireworks this season. The head honcho in McLennan County, where our store is located has just issued the order for the ban of sales and use of fireworks.
We understand--we really do, because it's been so dry here in Texas, especially south of us.
But couldn't he have done it yesterday or the day before--the supposed deadline for these announcements?? So that all those people that count on that deadline to place their order or pickup their product didn't proceed.
Ordering's not a big deal, because you can cancel it; but once you've take receipt of your inventory, you're (obviously) obligated to pay for it. We had a suspicion and cut our order way back so that we could pay it out of pocket, if we had to. Which we now have to do. Grr...
Looking on the bright side, I suggested we find somewhere to shoot our own show. Hubby hasn't shot a show in quite a few years, which he misses. And was the reason we started selling in the first place--to get wholesale prices. (The man was spending $4K to $6K a year.) (Yeah.)
Hubby's still taking his vacation though. He'll go to the store, stock the shelves, stripe the parking lot, etc. Just at a slower pace. I'll still get my vacation too. :)
