Careening into December and heading for Christmas...


Hello There!

Hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving. Mine was low key with just DD and me and her BFF, who came over after a very trying Thanksgiving meal with her family needing some love and cheer. DD and I watched the Star Trek reboot trilogy too. I love those movies.

The weekend as a whole was also low key and I accomplished almost everything on my to-do list. The tree now has ornaments. Garland decorates doorways. The number of wrapped presents under the tree has increased.


I binged watched both available season of Victoria. I found and unpacked a box of books from my shed--guess what I want to do now. :0) I completed gifts for my very dearest writer peeps. The usual weekend chores got completed too of course.


I've spent some good quality time with DD, and not just over the weekend, which I'm so grateful for. One of these days she's going to get her own place again and I'm going to miss her terribly.

Speaking of DD, our record is intact. What record you ask... Well, the one where the Stars have won every game we've attended in person so far this year. They even won the one game we had tickets for but didn't attend--I passed the tickets on to one of my employees, so the seats were still filled by us. :0) Unfortunately, they lost the following day, although they played a heck of a game. When they win the Reunion Tower Ball lights up in green and white.

You know, I meant to post Friday, but I was at home and working on crafty things, out of the normal routine of being at work or getting ready for work and it just didn't occur to me. But you were busy enjoying your own long weekend and didn't miss me I'm sure.

Talk about productive!


Everything I set out to accomplish this weekend was done. I spent Saturday working in twenty minute sprints in order to make progress on every project without feeling stuck on the less enjoyable tasks (Things like cleaning bathrooms...).

Most importantly -- I completed a letter on the epic birth sampler of love and started the next one. In fact, I got the base done and the letter part done too. I just have to stitch like crazy to get that letter's little girl done so I can go on to the very. last. letter.





I also finished reading my book aloud. It's very helpful to actually hear the flow of the words, the eye will trip where the tongue does. It also forces me to actually read every word, helping me to find missing words. I can also hear repeated words or phrases, and repetitious concepts can also be discovered. The whole process took me about four days--primarily because I had Friday evening and all of Saturday to focus on it.

Sunday I focused on the sampler and the Scottish highlander epic. I'm giving the other writing projects some space so that the next time I read them, they'll be a little bit fresher. Plus I've missed the Scottish highlands and the story needs its fair share of my attention. My goal is another 35K on this one for a total of 80K. If I'm not mistaken, that doesn't include the 22K for part one. Which means, it'll be over 100K when all is said and done--WOW! Where sis all those words come from??

And the house is clean and the laundry is done, so all in all, a very productive weekend-- even with a 3+ hour break for NASCAR. :) (Jimmie Johnson won, btw!)

A really productive weekend...


Even the weather cooperated and I was able to spend some time in the back yard. I filled two lawn bags with grass clippings/leaves. That didn't even get half the lawn mowed... But it's a start. I was going to dead-head the dandelions but instead pulled up these huge plugs. A couple of these things were the diameter of a half dollar with the carrot-like root up to six/seven inches long. Yikes!

Looks like no rest for the wicked and I'll have to get back to dandelion patrol despite any cold spells we get. I've neglected my duties since October and now I'm paying for it.

In other news, I found this super recipe for cleaning soap scum. It doesn't take as much as elbow grease as one would expect even for a nice thick coating... 1 cup Borax, 2 tablespoons liquid dish soap, and 1 to 2 cups water. The instructions said add enough water to make thick pancake batter. It only took 3/4 cup water for me, though perhaps I should have just added the full cup for a thinner mixture that lasted a bit longer.

As it was, it took me three batches to completely clean DH's three by three foot shower stall and only the bottom 2/3 at that. I think it still needs a second going over, but I've rubbed the tile down with baby oil to prevent any further buildup in the meantime. I duly cleaned the rest of the master bathroom and promise to keep up with it now that it's had its big cleaning. (Part of the goals, remember?)

Laundry and groceries also done for the week.

There were a handful of other miscellaneous tasks on my list and all conquered. I'm feeling quite accomplished. Pleasure reading, writing, TV watching and napping even got some time too.

Update--

Five contest entries--judged.
Critique--done (twice, actually).
Short story--edited and complete.

What's next--another critique and another.

And writing of course...

I really need to take my Christmas tree down and haul all the Christmas stuff back to the shed. The lawn needs to be mown and the leaves raked, but those are #1 son tasks, although I'll help him.

Other than that...more writing, me thinks.
