And here we go...

Can I stop time right now? The month of May is going to be a busy whirlwind of a month, most of it revolving around band events with a handful of family events thrown in for good measure. My month looks like this:

05.05: Jazz Festival sponsored by Sonshine's band, I'm helping. All day.
05.10: Band Booster meeting
05.12: oldest nephew's graduation from college and subsequent induction into the USAF
05.13: Mother's Day and my birthday celebration
05.18: band award banquet
05.19: writers group and critique group meetings
05.22: spring band concert (which included booster meeting to vote on officers)
05.23: my youngest nephew's birthday
05.24: band trip, lasting 2 days and on which I'm going as a chaperone (eek)
05.27: my father-in-law's birthday
06.01: graduation for Sonshine's HS - he's not graduating, but the band plays Pomp and Circumstance
06.02: youngest nephew's graduation from high school
06.03: my momma's birthday
06.03: Cowboys Stadium event (and so it begins....)

And I have writing and revising to accomplish in between all that.

I'm feeling overwhelmed now that I've compiled this definitive list. Yikes.

Breathe, Jen, breathe. In. Out. Slowly. One day at a time and I'll get through it.

On that note, I have a couple of things I need to get done, so this is all you get today.

Happy HUMP day. See you Friday.

Coming up for air...

This past five days have been awful. A co-located server crashed and all of one of our client's stuff (website, online store, and important access to online case files) was gone. Don't ask me why there was no backup. That's not my department. But I have been in the midst of the chaos, trying to salvage as much information from other sources as possible. I'm sick and tired of this client, I'm frustrated, and I'm ready to move onto other things.

Luckily, the weather has calmed. Things are up and running. Four hundred attorneys can do what they need to do. Now it's time to play catch up and see what else has gone on in my world for last several days. *deep breath*

The real weather is pleasant and though I prefer warmer temps to colder ones, I do wish things would return to normal.

So what's new with you?

To echo a friend, Change is good...isn't it?

I'm going to be negative Nellie, for a moment, and say, emphatically, NO! Not all change is good. I'm not fond of change, even the good sort, but the bad...well, let's not even talk about it right now.

On the other hand, there are changes going on in my house. And while the transition leaves me cranky and out of sorts, the end result will be good. (Well, except for the reduction of funds as a result. :)

Last post, I mentioned flooring. My writing room is, for all intents and purposes, finished. It just needs furniture and decoration. Only it is now being used as a staging area/storage while my in-laws work on the rest of the house. But that's okay...

About 3/5 of the hallway has flooring now also, as does Sonshine's bedroom and closet. Today, all the molding in his room will go up and the painting of the molding will commence. After that, I'll be touching up his walls and then we'll go through all his stuff and refill his room. Oh, boy...

So the changes are wreaking havoc with my mood, though being at work today helps (not the work part, just the no chaos part).

In other news, yesterday (07.31.11) was the 30th straight day of over 100* temps here in North Texas. The record is 42 days back in 1980. It's entirely possible we'll break it, but, good gravy, I sure hope not. I had a gander at the trees in my back yard and I think I'll have to start watering them as well. My maple is looking a bit scraggly. So, yeah, as soon as the yard bags are moved, I'll start watering back there too.

As always, keep cool and stay hydrated.

Monday, Monday...

The week and the day was to start off on a pretty promising note.

We were going to pick up a sizable check from a client and our immediate pressing financial worries would be temporarily checked.

The weekend was beautiful *and* productive. Our backyard jungle was returned to it's state as a backyard with a lawn--well, lawn is a relative term as any real grass has been taken over by weeds. But it looks fine when it's mowed, and as long as it's green...

Our patio was cleared of all the random debris and weeds, and hubby and I tried to enjoy an al fresco breakfast but it was a might too chilly for him.

Huh? What? He was too cold? That's an amazing turn of events as it's usually me trembling with bird-chillies. I must be approaching "the change."

The weather in general is bright and sunny, but still cool. Perfect camping weather.

But this morning at 6:45 we get a call from one of our best clients--their building was broken into and their server and five of their PCs were stolen. So now we are on high alert to turn around a new server, five PCs, and find their data from backups and get them up and running.

Chaos! I hate chaos. Meanwhile, all our other plans get pushed to the wayside. On a positive note, we're making a decent chuck of change as we can charge priority rates, and insurance should pay for it all.

When's the lull?

Been blowing and going for quite some time now. And with the holidays right around the corner, there'll be more to do--including a six-day trip to Nebraska (five of us packed in a Toyota Scion xB, how's that for fun?).

What happened to normal? Life used to be... how shall I put it... predictable? easy? Um... quiet?

Not quite any of these, but mostly.

My life went a certain way. I could count on it. Now there's no telling what a day will hold, and I gotta say, I don't like it. Not one little bit. I like routine. I like knowing what's going to happen on any given day (within reason, of course).

I hate chaos and yet home and work seem to be nothing but. Week in and week out, there's always some kind of drama going on.

Try as I might to force order in my world, I'm surrounded by people who are freer than me. Some who are spontaneous. Some who are young and oblivious to it.

Arghh... Calgon take me away!
