What a Home Opener!!

You know what that means...

Dallas Stars Hockey is back and the Stars pulled off a win.

It was super game and the boys did us proud.

Being back at the AAC with a full-capacity crowd was mostly awesome. :0) Awesome because, of course, the crowd yelling "Stars" as one during the National Anthem is amazing. The sound of the goal horn and the cheering of the fans is music to our ears. Just feeling the excitement of the crowd and the all-encompassing reverberation of the whole crowd yelling "Dallas" "Stars" "Dallas" "Stars" after a goal is a unique experience.

It lacked a bit of awesome because we lost the elbow room from when social distancing was in place. But it's time to re-build normalcy. And this was a super start.

They added a new thing, at least for the home opener, but I'm hoping it sticks around--three long sheets of fabric acting as a projection screen:

Of course, we're sat on the wrong side of this one... For most images, it doesn't matter, but it does for the logo!

For opening night they handed out battery powered glow bracelets:

Mostly they glowed green or white, but during the National Anthem, they glowed red and blue.

Normally, I'm all in on just enjoying an experience. I grew up before cell phones, and I don't take a lot of pictures...but...if you're so inclined to get an inkling of what it's like at the AAC, I perfectly-timed hitting record to catch the game winning goal and the resultant crowd response.

It looks as though we have a new group of fellow season ticket holders on our little area and one guy is going to get really annoying really fast. But we'll see how often our paths cross. Not often I hope.

Anyway...

Be Loud. Wear Green. and..

 GO STARS!!!

So guess where I'm going in June...

The 2018 NHL Draft will be here in North Texas. I'm so excited I could spit. Not because I care all that much about the draft, but because a) it's a new hockey experience to partake in, b) there are fan activities prior to the actual draft in Victory Plaza of the AAC, c) an evening spent with DD, and maybe the most exciting of all...

Puck Soup Live Dallas Edition.

The guys who create my favorite hockey podcast will be in town covering the draft and they have done live shows in other cities they've visited as a result of traveling for the job (hockey writers). As soon as I heard the draft was going to be in Dallas, I was pretty confident they were going to at least attempt to get a live show set up. And they are. Waiting eagerly for the announcement of tickets.

Dallas Stars Hockey FTW!!!

Okay, well the Stars actually lost, but the adventure was a win. Last night, DD and I went to a Dallas Stars hockey game. DD had gone last year, but it was a first for me. Oh, man, oh, man!!!

My beautiful girl and me!!!

First, we took the Trinity Railway Express across the Metroplex--turns out there's a station right across the street from the American Airlines Center--which--no driving in traffic during rush hour in Dallas to attend the game. The downside was that we had to leave before the game was over to make sure we caught the last train back to our neck of the woods.

The AAC from the train station.

The facility was gorgeous, I must say. Our first stop once inside the building though? The Hangar--the Stars (and Mavericks) Fan Shop. I couldn't go to a game and not get some merch!

So...socks, a collector pin, a decal, Stars-brand "Lego" players Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn, and a tee shirt... Tyler's "Lego" face even has his facial hair!

Our view from the cheap seats...
The Stars and the St. Louis Blues during warm-ups.

It looks farther away in the picture than it does when you're there. And I was pleasantly surprised. I could see the whole rink and follow the puck pretty easily. We were at the top with no one behind us, so that was a bonus too. We got lucky that there was no one in front of us either, so we could put our feet up on the seats in front of us.

The most interesting thing to me was there it was quiet, relatively speaking. I'm so used to watching on TV with the sound of commentators and the noises from the ice due to the cameras being down at ice-level. But at a game...no play by play. There's the announcement of penalties and of course the crowd in general and semi-muted sounds from the ice, but otherwise, it's quiet.

A very cool experience and one I hope to repeat soon and as often as possible.

Are you hockey fan?
