Captain's Log: Supplemental

My watch word for this year is ABUNDANCE...

For the last couple of Januarys (2021 / 2022), I was "assigned" words for the year via a Facebook meme.

Well, I've spent way less time on Facebook than in years past-- and I don't miss it at all, to be honest -- so no memes and no words.

Not that I needed help this year.

As I mentioned in the very first post of 2023, this is the year of abundance and working toward even more abundance.

The premise of the book where I got the word is that the universe is abundant and that there really is enough for everybody.

Okay, I'm in.

Abundance is my word.

The start of the year was abundant in some ways, as I mentioned last Thursday. But the thing about most of my posts is that they're begun a couple of weeks before they're posted. I work on them and they're finalized anywhere from a few days to a week before I set them to post.

As a result, things happen and circumstances change. And that was the case of last Thursday's post. It was finalized and scheduled several days before the 2nd. So that was a good week and a half / two weeks ago.

What happened in the meantime?? A couple of financial dings, some down days, life.

That is life. I get it.

On Monday--this immediate past Monday--I came across a video by YouTuber Rose Han titled "How I Made My First Million Using the Law of Attraction." So I watched. (And I bumped today's originally scheduled post to next week in order to write what you're reading right now... Hence the post's title and image.)

And guess what word popped up within a minute and a half?

Yep, that's right--ABUNDANCE.

One of the things Rose shared was how she used vision boards as a tool to keep her motivated. She looked at it all the time to remind her of the things she was trying to accomplish. And I realized I hadn't looked at my vision board in at least a week. I certainly wasn't looking at it "all the time." (It certainly wasn't jam-packed with as many images either, but that's another issue.)

I pondered a way that I could keep my vision board in better view--

I'd hung it on the inside of my home office door, but the only time I see it is if I'm in my office and the door is closed. Well that doesn't happen often. And then it struck me.

--I have some real estate that I see every single day. Whether I'm at home or whether I'm at the office. My computer monitor desktops.

Right now I have a lovely picture of rolling farm fields in Pennsylvania on both PCs. I love that image. It has a lot of green (my favorite color) and a beautiful blue, cloud-dotted sky (love those kind of days).

So now I'm working on a digital / electronic vision board to set as my desktop background for a while. That way I'll be reminded of the things I'm working toward all day every day.

The other thing that Rose talked about was the "Law of Attraction." How like attracts like...

I only researched the "Law of Attraction" a little bit and can't give you a good run-down on it yet, but I'll be Googling it further to see the best way for me to implement its tenets.

All that to say...I needed a reminder and a kick in the pants. And I got both. I didn't realize I needed them until I watched the video, but there you go. The universe is watching out for me.

Take care and have a great weekend.

WORDS of the YEAR ~ 2022 Edition

In early January of 2021, as I was scrolling through Facebook one fine morning, I found a meme that said the first four words you found in a word-search like chart of words were your words for the year.

Last year's words were creative, adjustment, gratitude, and strength. My thoughts on their potential can be found here. http://www.jenfitzgeraldwriter.com/2021/01/words-for-year.html

Looking back though...

Creativity--even though I struggled with the writing of books, I came up with two new series ideas to go with the Christmas books. I also came up with a new cross-stitch pattern idea which I created and which sold a handful of times.

Adjustment--there weren't as many adjustments as I expected; the wheels of change move slowly in our company. Maybe this year.

Gratitude--I have have definitely grown more grateful this year for various and sundry reasons.

Strength--looking back, I'm not sure where / how this came into play since none of the concepts I mentioned in last year's post came to pass.

Of course this 'words of the year thing' is the result of a meme, but they're fun to ponder nonetheless.

I can across another such meme a few days ago and this year's words are: creation, love, connect, alignment.

Last year I had a creativity, this year I have creation...a natural progression. We'll see what I can create this year.

Love following last year's gratitude? Makes sense. I'm trying to love people better. The world needs more kindness and love. Plus my momma's coming to live with us. I have a have a chance to be with her and love on her.

The year of connecting. Well, with Mom coming to live us, we'll definitely be re-connecting. And I'm looking forward to spending time with her after all these years we've been living on opposite ends of the country.

My last word is alignment...I'm not entirely sure what this portends. I was so excited about my personality strengths--that I still haven't fully shared with y'all--but there's a lot of talk in the Strengths group about getting into alignment with your top ten strengths so that you can be better / be faster at whatever you do because you're utilizing your strengths to their fullest potential. I'll take some of that, please. But it could also have to do with my physical body...I don't doubt a session or two with a chiropractor would go amiss. :0) There are other more internal ways for this to be important as well, but that's for me to discover.

So once again, words for 2022:

CREATION, LOVE, CONNECT, ALIGNMENT

It'll be interesting to see how these play out over the next year.

Take care.

WORDs for the YEAR

 Happy 2021! We made it.

(image from istockphotos.com)

Last week, I was scrolling through Facebook and there was a meme on one of the groups I'm a member of.

There was a word-search-like image and the first four words your were able to see in the grid were supposed to be your words for the new year.

So I scanned the jumble of letters and noted my four words, thinking they were interesting and probably accurate, but nothing more than that.

Until a day or two later when my core of girlfriends was texting back and forth, and someone mentioned choosing a word for 2021.

Maybe it was coincidence, maybe it wasn't, but the more I thought about my words, the more I realized how apropos they really are.

My four words were: creative, adjustment, gratitude, and strength.

Creative: I'm not 100% sure how creative fits in, but it feels right. I guess because I'm looking to strengthen certain aspects of my creativity this year.

Adjustment: There are going to be a lot of adjustments coming, both personally and for our business, so that one definitely fits. I'm not a huge fan of change, but knowing it's coming is half the mind-battle.

Gratitude: I know I need to be more grateful about many many things--including the upcoming changes that will grow our business. I'll definitely need an attitude adjustment to help me with certain aspects of that. :0)

Strength: And as for strength, this works for a variety of reasons. I'm gonna need metaphorical strength (and forbearance) to get through the changes in our business. It'll be a stressful time.

I'm also going to be studying my top ten personality strengths and learning how to utilize them for maximum potential. (More about those to come.)

And I'd like to increase my actual physical strength.

What do you think?

Do you have a word or two that you'd like to harness for the upcoming year?

I'd love to hear about them in the comments.

Have a great week.
